Your comment...Thanks for your encouragement Chris!

Your comment is timely in particular as I'm currently staying up late nights, making my biannual visit to your series thread, "X- marks the spot".

http://thecarpentryway.blogspot.com/2010/11/x-marks-spot.html

Your explanations and examples of the exercise, brought throught to the 2-D expansion of the individual components is particularly helpful as I try to wrap my mind around that pesky Japanese splayed rafter construction that I'm admiring.

If anyone out there wants to see some really nice examples of this joint, I encourage you to do a Google Image search using Chris's thoughtfully provided kanji of alternate names for this joinery.

For those of us who are interested in this sort of thing, learning the terminology is one of the biggest hurdles to discovery. Having the kanji gives a huge boost, good for hours of exploration down the rabbit hole, haha.

Thank you yet again!
Jasonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06740185043053833321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3324046123100137801.post-14704203457650319162016-02-24T08:12:36.337-08:002016-02-24T08:12:36.337-08:00Jason,
as far as the terminology goes, yatoi-hozo...Jason,

as far as the terminology goes, yatoi-hozo is one name. The other name for this joint is written upon the picture you shared at the top of the post, "引き独鈷車知栓", hiki-dokko-shachi sen. Also can be called "寄蟻引独鈷", yose-ari hiki-dokko.

You did a nice job on that joint.

~CAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14328401081765407624noreply@blogger.com
